Breast Augmentation

Millions of women today suffer from a lack of self-confidence simply due to the size or shape of their breasts.

Breast Augmentation or ‘ augmentation mammoplasty’ as it’s also known, is an operation to increase breast size where implants are placed under the breast tissue or chest muscles.

For some, breast augmentation is a way to solve the issue of low self esteem however for others, this proceedure is part of breast breast reconstruction after surgery for breast cancer or other conditions affecting the breast.. Breasts can change for a number of reasons, including:

  • Various Hormonal or Weight Changes During Pregnancy

  • Changes After Breast Feeding

  • Drastic Or Gradual Weight Changes That Affect The Breasts

  • The Ageing Process

  • Reduced Volume As A Result Of Cancer Or Other Illnesses That Affect The Breasts

How is a Breast Augmentation Procedure Performed?

A Breast Augmentation operation is performed under general anesthetic and generally lasts 2 to 3 hours depending on your requirements. Your surgeon will examine you ahead of the procedure to better determine the most suitable shape, size and type of implant for you. Patients will be mobile from day one and should be back to full exercise within six weeks. Patients are recommended to take around one to two weeks off work immediately after the operation in order to ensure full recuperation.

What's Involved

Augmentation can also be combined with a Breast lift. Combining an implant and breast lift into one procedure is an ‘augmentation-mastopexy’, which both moves the nipple into a more elevated position and creates more fullness in the upper pole. Performed on its own, neither procedure could provide the dual benefits possible via an augmentation and lift together.

Following your procedure;

Recovery time is dependent on the method and type of breast surgery, simply because  some are less invasive than others to the body. You will need someone to help you for 2-3 days, and you should not lift anything. After about a week, you can return to a job that is sedentary. You should not lift anything for at least 2-3 weeks even up to 6 weeks that weighs more than 10 pounds. If you must lift something during your recovery, then keep your elbows close to your body.. Make sure you understand what surgery involves, including any possible risks, complications and follow-up care.

Smoking and drinking alcohol can seriously inhibit your recovery, so they should be avoided for at least three months post-surgery.If you have any medical conditions, you must advise your surgeon ahead of time to ensure that the procedure is safe, and will not affect you or your health in the long-term

Other facts to consider whilst planning your procedure

A minimum of 7 days stay in Turkey is recommended as the surgeon will want to leave the drains in for 2-3 days and also give you a post operative check up(generally around day 5 after surgery).

We recommend you travel with a companion and travel lightly as you will not be able to lift or carry anything heavy on your return journey.

Many of our client’s have breast surgery following weight loss surgery and it is worth pointing out that patients of Bariatric surgery tend to take longer to heal and therefore may have a longer recovery process
