Stages of Hair Transplantation
To make sure that you are ready for your transplant we recommend that you pay attention to the following points:
- Stop smoking and taking aspirin 7 days before and drinking caffeine, green tea and alcohol 3 days before the operation.
- Arrange so that there is a resting period of at least 3 days following the procedure.
- Make sure to have a healthy breakfast before the operation. If the operation is after lunch a light meal is recommeded .
- On the day of the procedure, you must wear a buttoned up shirt or a sweatshirt with a front zipper. Avoid wearing clothing that may come into contact with your head when undressing or dressing up, in order to prevent any potential damage to the newly transplanted grafts.
Before their hair transplantation procedure, patients will have a thorough one on one consultation with their surgeon. It is important to individually assess every case and determine the optimal number of grafts to be transplanted and plan a suitable outline of the implantation areas. The surgeon will explain the whole process from start to finish and answer any questions the patient may have regarding their transplant.
During this step, the surgeon uses a specialised tool to extract donor grafts from the patient’s donor area. Traditionally donor grafts are extracted from the back and sides of the scalp, however in some cases alternative donor areas are used. During an Advanced FUE procedure, grafts are always extracted one by one. This type of extraction does not leave an elongated scar on the donor area.
The surgeon will outline the projected results before proceeding with the mandated pre-op tests and other preparations.
As grafts are extracted, the transplant team takes all necessary measures to preserve them for implantation. Once a graft is extracted from the donor area, it is cleaned, sorted according to the number of hairs it contains and submerged in an active plasma solution, which maximises survivability. Petri dishes with the grafts are then refrigerated until implantation..
Once a sufficient amount of grafts are extracted, our specialist surgeon begins implanting them using the FUE Implantation Method, making a series of small incisions with a needle or other small, sharp instrument where the extracted follicle will be placed.
This method of implantation produces very high density of implantation.
After the main stages of a hair transplant are completed, it is important to follow correct aftercare procedures. This includes washing the donor and implantation areas, protecting the transplanted grafts from the elements, excessive rubbing, impacts and direct sunlight. The surgeon will also schedule a follow-up a day after the hair transplant to check on the recovery progress.
