Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery also known as a Mastopexy is an operation performed to enhance the look, shape and overall lift of a woman’s breasts.

A woman’s breasts inevitably change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness. These changes can be as a result of :

- Pregnancy

- Breastfeeding

- Weight fluctuations

- Aging

- Gravity

- Heredity

This procedure raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. Sometimes the areola ( coloured area surrounding the nipple ) becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift will reduce this as well.

Cosmetic surgeons use a variety of incision techniques for breast lift surgery; the exact technique used will vary based on a patient’s existing breast tissue, the amount of excess skin to be removed, and their own expections from this procedure. The cosmetic surgeon will recommend the type of breast lift best suited to each individual patient.

The Crescent breast lift is designed for women who are only in need of a minor lift and sees a single crescent-shaped incision running along the outer edge of the areola. This technique is only used for women with minimal sagging.

Peri-Areolar or Donut Lift corrects mild sagging with a single scar aound the areola. This method also results in minimal scarring and a more subtle lift as a minimal amount of tissue can be moved and none of the inner breast can be rearranged or moved.

The Vertical or Lollipop Lift is used to correct moderate sagging and allows the surgeon to carry out  more extensive reshaping of the breasts.

This type of breast lift is commonly used and involves a vertical lift with 2 incisions: one around the edge of the areola, and one running vertically from the bottom of the areola to the inframammary fold, creating a “lollipop” shape. The scarring may be more noticeable with this technique, but it is the ideal solution for those with moderate sagging.

The Inverted T or Anchor Lift allows for more dramatic reshaping to correct extensive sagging. This technique requires 3 incisions, one around the areola, one down to the natural breast crease, and a final one alone the crease  and is ideal for those with significant drooping or sagging.

A breast lift in Turkey can also be combined with breast reduction or breast enlargement depending on the results that you want to achieve. You will have the opportunity to discuss this with your surgeon before, or upon arrival at the hospital in Kuşadasi or Izmir.

The procedure is completed under general anesthetic and the duration is approximately 2-3 hours. Following Breast Lift Surgery patients can return to a non physical job after 1 week however a more physically demanding job will take up to 4 weeks. The patient will wear an anatomical bra for several months post surgery.

Following your procedure;

Recovery time is dependent on the method and type of breast surgery, simply because  some are less invasive than others to the body. You will need someone to help you for 2-3 days, and you should not lift anything. After about a week, you can return to a job that is sedentary. You should not lift anything for at least 2-3 weeks even up to 6 weeks that weighs more than 10 pounds. If you must lift something during your recovery, then keep your elbows close to your body.

During your recovery, your surgeon will provide you with instructions to take care of yourself. Limiting your activity level in the first few weeks of your recovery will be one of them.

Smoking and drinking alcohol can seriously inhibit your recovery, so they should be avoided for at least three months post-surgery.

Other facts to consider whilst planning your procedure

A minimum of 7 days stay in Turkey is recommended as the surgeon will want to leave the drains in for 2-3 days and also give you a post operative check up(generally around day 5 after surgery).

We recommend you travel with a companion and travel lightly as you will not be able to lift or carry anything heavy on your return journey.

Many of our client’s have breast surgery following weight loss surgery and it is worth pointing out that patients of Bariatric surgery tend to take longer to heal and therefore may have a longer recovery process
